Tomato rice is a very delicious and simple to prepare recipe. Plain Steamed Rice Cooked with Tangy-Spicy Mixture of Saute Tomato, Onion, Coriander leaves and Indian spices. South Indian style variety rice preparation, it is known as Thakkali Sadam. Here added step by step preparation methods and nutri information of Tomato rice.

Ingredients needed

Rice_Cooked (Long grain) – 50 Grams
Tomato Raw – 20 Grams
Onions Raw – 10 Grams
Mint leaves – 10 Grams
Green Chilli – 5 Grams
Curry leaves – 1 Sprig
Garam Masala Powder – 1 Teaspoon
Garlic Cloves – 3
Ginger Slices – 3
Mustard seeds – 0.10 Grams
Salt – 1 Teaspoon
Sunflower Oil – 2 TableSpoon
Fennel Seeds – 0.25 TableSpoon
Turmeric Powder- 0.25 TableSpoon
Chilli Powder – 0.25 TableSpoon
Bay leaf – 0.5 TableSpoon
Coriander Leaves – 2 Sprig

The Preparation Methods:

Step 1: Wash and soak rice for 5 minutes. If you Cook 1 cup rice with little salt and 2 cups of water.
Step 2: Cut onion and ginger and garlic into thin pieces. Chop tomato and green chilly to small pieces.
Step 3: Heat oil in a pan, add musterd seed when it splutters, Add sliced onions, when it becomes translucent add ginger, garlic, fennel seeds, bay leaf, mint leaves, curry leaves and green chilly, Saute well.
Step 4: Add chopped tomatoes and cook well till they turn mushy.
Step 5: Once tomato juice completely evaporated and the oil becomes separated, reduce the flame and add turmeric powder followed by chilly powder, garam masala powder, and add salt and mix it well
Step 6: Add cooked rice and gently mix to spread the masala onto the rice until moisture is completely absorbed.
Step 7: Switch off the flame, mix with chopped coriander leaves. Enjoy it with onion raita.
