Tomato Kurma/ Thakkali kurma makes a great combo with idli, dosa, chapathi, white rice, idiyappam and even appam. Tomato kurma is a typical South Indian breakfast side dish. The whole preparation is very simple and it works out well. Lets check the recipe and detailed nutrient informations

Ingredients needed

Tomato Raw – 30 Grams
Onions Raw – 30 Grams
Sambar Powder – 0.5 TableSpoon
Salt – 1 Teaspoon
Water – As required

For Grind:
Fried gram / Pottukadalai – 20 Grams
Green Chilli – 5 Grams
Coconut_Shredded – 20 Grams
Fennel Seeds – 0.5 TableSpoon

For seasoning:
Canola Oil – 1 TableSpoon
Mustard seeds – 0.5 Grams
Urad dal – 0.5 Grams
Cinnamon / Pattai – 0.25 TableSpoon
Cloves / Lowanga – 0.25 TableSpoon
Garnish:
Coriander Leaves / Cilantro – 1 Sprig

The Preparation Methods:

Step 1: Grind coconut, fried gram dal,green chillies and fennel with little water to a fine paste.

Step 2: Heat a kadai with oil. then add mustard seeds, urad dal, when it splutters , then add cinnamon and cloves. Add finely chopped onion and fry till transparent.

Step 3: Add finely chopped tomatoes and little bit of salt. Fry until it becomes soft.

Step 4: Add sambar powder. Mix well and fry for two more minutes. Add needed water, add more salt if needed and bring to boil. Add the ground paste and boil for 3-4 minutes. Adjust water consistency if it is too thick.

Tips: Do not add more masalas like cinnamon or cloves or fennel than mentioned, otherwise the kurma tastes different. Adjust the water quantity to get a kurma consistency. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.

Serve with idiyappam / Chapathi/ Idli / Dosa.
