Thakkali thokku or Tomato Thokku goes perfectly well with idlis, dosas and even chappathi. It is very famous side dish for south indian cuisine. Tomato thokku not only serves as a side dish to the tiffin items, this thokku can also be mixed with hot rice to enjoy quick fix thakkali sadam (Tomato rice). Tomato Cooked – 50 Grams
Garlic Raw / Garlic Cloves – 3 Count
Green Chilli Raw / Green Chilli Peppers – 2 Grams
Red Chilli Spices / Chilli Powder – 0.5 TableSpoon
Turmeric Powder / Turmeric Spices – 0.25 TableSpoon
Salt – 1 Teaspoon
Sesame seed Oil – 1 TableSpoon
Mustard seeds – 1 Grams
Asafoetida (Hing) – 1 Grams
Curry leaves – 2 Sprig
Coriander Leaves / Cilantro – 1 Sprig
The Preparation Methods:
Step 1: Wash and clean tomatoes. Chop it into small pieces.
Step 2: Grind chopped tomatoes along with garlic and green chilies and keep it aside.
Step 3: Heat 1 tbsp of oil and do seasoning with mustard seeds, curry leaves and asafetida.
Step 4: When mustard spatters, add the tomato mixture, chili powder, turmeric powder and salt. Allow the mixture to boil (about 12-15 min) on low flame.
Step 5: As the mixture boils, it would slowly thicken. Keep stirring occasionally.
Step 6: You can see extra water (in the tomatoes) evaporating away and leaving behind the sauce.
Step 7:When you find thick sauce in the pan (25% of the original quantity), remove from the stove.
Step 8: Add cilantro to garnish. now ready spicy tomato thokku. enjoy with idly, dosa, chappathi.
